Hosting deals and Black Friday: what the price becomes
Updated Oct 15, 2026
What hosting deals are
A Black Friday hosting deal discounts the first billing cycle — usually a year, sometimes longer — then renews at the standard rate. The headline price is real, but it applies once. What you pay from month thirteen onward is set by the renewal rate, and that rate is where the three-year total is made.
HostGator's Hatchling plan costs 3.75 USD/month for three years if paid upfront, a three-year total of 135.00 USD. It renews at 10.99 USD/month after those three years. DreamHost's Web Hosting Launch starts at 2.89 EUR/month and renews at 10.99 EUR after twelve months, reaching 298.44 EUR over three years. The gap between what the first year costs and what the second and third cost is the structure these promotions are built on.
Who needs a Black Friday deal
Someone starting a site who can commit to a term of one to four years and has planned for the renewal price. The saving is largest when the longest term is prepaid in full.
Hostinger's mail plans illustrate the arithmetic. Mail Starter costs 0.39 USD/month and renews at 1.59 USD after forty-eight months, reaching 14.04 USD over three years. The same provider's Standard Mail API costs 0.99 USD/month, renews at 2.79 USD after forty-eight months, and totals 35.64 USD. Both require a four-year commitment to access the intro rate. A reader who knows they will stay that long and has the cash to prepay gets the advertised price. One who does not has the choice of paying monthly at a higher rate or walking away.
InterServer runs the opposite model: 2.50 USD/month for the first month, then 7.00 USD/month unless a year or more is prepaid. The three-year total is 247.50 USD, mid-table here, but the month-to-month rate after intro is the highest among these providers.
Who does not need one
Someone testing an idea, expecting to outgrow shared hosting quickly, or unable to prepay a year. The promotional rate disappears the moment billing switches to monthly.
A deal also adds no value where the provider charges one price that does not change. SherlockHost's Web Hosting costs 2.49 GBP/month from signup through year three, the same rate in month thirty-six as in month one. Namecheap's .com domain registration under the NEWCOM679 offer is 6.79 USD/year at signup and renewal both. Neither is a promotion in the sense the term is used during Black Friday — the price is the price.
What it costs
The range among shared hosting here runs from SherlockHost at 2.49 GBP/month with no increase, to DreamHost at 2.89 EUR/month rising to 10.99 EUR, to HostGator's Baby plan at 4.50 USD/month for three years then 16.49 USD/month, a three-year total of 162.00 USD.
Mid-tier plans cost more but the structure is the same. DreamHost's managed WordPress plan, DreamPress 1, is 14.99 EUR/month and renews at 19.99 EUR after twelve months, totalling 659.64 EUR over three years. HostGator's Business plan is 6.25 USD/month for three years, renews at 21.99 USD, and totals 225.00 USD.
Domain pricing follows a similar pattern. Namecheap's .online registration promo is 0.98 USD/year, renews at 2.88 USD after twelve months, and totals 80.88 USD over three years. The .co registration promo is 19.98 USD/year, renews at 38.48 USD, and reaches 1163.28 USD over the same period.
How to choose
Calculate the three-year total, not the monthly rate alone. A plan cheap in year one and expensive afterward often costs more than one priced consistently.
Compare what renews at the intro rate and what does not. Hostinger's GPU cloud instances — the RTX 4090 at 0.42 USD/hour, the A100 at 1.55 USD/hour, the B200 at 4.50 USD/hour — all renew at the same price. The Cloud Professional and Cloud Enterprise plans, at 15.99 USD/month and 29.99 USD/month respectively, do not state a renewal price.
Read for the trade-off. SherlockHost's 2.49 GBP/month rate is cheaper than nearly everything here, but the listing claims unlimited bandwidth, storage, and databases without defining the limits that obviously exist. DreamHost's Web Hosting Launch costs more and rises after a year, but the resources and renewal rate are both stated.
The mistakes people make
Prepaying three years for a provider they have not used. The promotional rate requires the commitment upfront, and there is no recovering the money if the service does not suit.
Ignoring the renewal rate. HostGator's Pro plan is 13.95 USD/month for three years, a total of 502.20 USD, then 29.69 USD/month — more than double. A reader who budgets for the intro price and forgets the renewal will be surprised in month thirty-seven.
Assuming monthly billing costs one-twelfth of the annual rate. It does not. The intro price is almost always locked to the longest term, and monthly billing renews at the standard rate immediately.
Buying resources that will not be used. A deal is only a saving if the thing it discounts was going to be bought anyway.
